| Please Be Seated A project by third year furniture and product design students from three colleges - Buckinghamshire Chilterns, Ravensbourne and Goldsmiths - who created five pieces of contemporary public seating for two of Clerkenwell's parks. The aim was to design some exciting yet robust seating that would provide enjoyable places for the local community to use as a legacy of the London Architecture Biennale. Seating included a contemporary 'take' on a traditional park bench, concrete seating cast from buckets and one constructed from cast iron finials. Please Be Seated can be still seen and enjoyed at St. John's Park (on the corner of Britton St. and Benjamin Street) and St. James Park (by the church of St. James off Clerkenwell Green). Scarlet Projects developed Please Be Seated in consultation with Islington Council's Greenspace and Leisure Department. Please Be Seated is supported by Bloomberg. The first London Architecture Biennale was held in Clerkenwell, London as part of Architecture Week 19-28 June 2004. LAB aims to celebrate London's vibrant architectural scene and Clerkenwell as a creative base. Sarah Gaventa of Scarlet Projects is a committee member for London Architecture Biennale. Scarlet Projects conceived and developed three projects for LAB's celebrations.
