| SAT/1 - 1st July 2000 Clients: Vitra, Knoll, Bene, Fritz Hansen, Giroflex, Girsberger, Kusch, Wilkhahn Sat is a major design trail around the Clerkenwell area of London, home to the architectural and design community. Nine major furniture design companies including Vitra and Knoll host a day long celebration, opening up their showrooms and offering food from local bars and restaurants, as well as rickshaw rides between showrooms and mini guided historical architectural tours of the area. Design passports are issued to guests who collect stamps from each showroom to win prizes with a local connection -such as a side of lamb from Smithfield meat market, a loft apartment for a week or an antique watch. Guests are encouraged to bring children who are entertained by clowns and given specially designed colouring books with a furniture theme. Developed and organised by Scarlet Projects, the aim of the event is to demonstrate Clerkenwells position as the centre for furniture design in London, to establish the locations of the showrooms and to give guests a taste of the area. The event is to become an annual event in the British Design community calendar. Graphics for the event were designed by Graphic Thought Facility. Sat 2 took place on 15th September 2001. Eight of the leading design furniture companies again came together to create an informal design day. The event took place from noon 7pm followed by a party. Additions this year included an installation of the office: past present and future, with showrooms displaying early office furniture alongside their contemporary product and ideas for the future. A fabulous childrens play area was constructed in the new Milliken showroom which also hosted the main prize - a complete home office consisting of furniture donated by all the showrooms. The event was well attended by designers, architects and their families and we are already planning for Sat 3 which is likely to take place in June 2002. The third SAT/3: The Clerkenwell Design Trail took place on 7th December, 2002. Eleven contract furniture showrooms came together: Bene, Fritz Hansen, Girsberger, Gordon Russell, K+N International, Kusch+ Co, Milliken Carpet, Orangebox, Sedus Stoll, Wilkhahn, W. J. White to host an informal design day and the biggest SAT event yet. New products fresh from Orgatec were on display in some of the showrooms along with current furniture collections. Adding to the local flavour, food from local Clerkenwell restaurants and cafes such as Moro and Carluccio's was served in the showrooms. As Christmas was just around the corner, the best of London's young designer-makers offered a selection of ideal stocking fillers. Adding further to the festive mood, we had Carol Singers from the Guildhall School of Music tour the showrooms singing seasonal tunes. Children had the chance to meet Santa, who was installed in a grotto in Orangebox and be entertained by clowns in other showrooms. Karma Kabs (imported Indian Ambassador cars decorated with Bollywood style interiors) and classic Rolls Royces were on hand to ferry visitors around the trail, along with little Caffe Mobile coffee vans for anyone needing a hot drink to perk them up en route. SAT/3 was designed by Multistorey.
