| GraficEurope Scarlet Projects was Programme Director for GraficEurope, the first ever Pan-European annual graphic design conference for the graphic design community. 2003's critically acclaimed conference held at Catalonia Palace of Congress in Barcelona, March 27 – 29, and included a line up of design luminaries such as Stefan Sagmeister, the uncontested champion of innovative music packaging in the U.S; Peter Saville, the notorious and quixotic UK art director best known for his work for Factory Records and his covers for New Order, Joy Division and Suede; Wallpaper* founder and now branding guru Tyler Brûlé; Barcelona’s very own Javier Mariscal, the eccentric creator of the graphic design programme and mascot Cobi for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics; Shubankhar Ray, visionary creative director of the playful Spanish footwear company Camper; and committed Modernist Dutch typographic pioneer Wim Crouwel. Other inspirational speakers were Graphic Thought Facility, M/M, Toshio Iwai, Elektrosmog, Andrew Shoben, Experimental Jetset, eBoy, Simon Waterfall, and JODI. GraficEurope is about providing a breath of fresh air to jaded minds, inspiring new ideas, and broadening horizons. It aims to bring together the world’s leading names in graphic design, as well as highly reputed speakers from outside the profession, to present a wide range of talks getting to the heart of the issues facing design and designers today.
